Whatever Everyone Else is Doing, Do the Opposite!

We get stuck in these ruts all the time. It’s not just in your everyday life, it’s in your relationships and your health, too. No matter what, take a look around. If what you’re after isn’t working for you, it may be time to do the opposite!

  1. Eat a lowfat diet. NOPE

That ship has sailed. We have been studying the impacts of the poorly researched high carbohydrate, low fat diet for over 50 years now. Here’s what we’ve found:

There has been a profound increase in diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, heart attack/stroke, blood pressure, and many forms of cancer. 

Do the opposite.

Eat a moderate protein (25-35%), moderate fat (35-45%), and modest carbohydrate diet (20-40%) composed of a variety of whole, unprocessed foods. Eat mostly vegetables, some fruit, and occasional high quality starches. Eat organic meats whenever possible.

2. Perform long, steady distance cardio in order to lose weight and bodyfat. NOPE

Take a look around the gym. The folks with the highest levels of bodyfat will be those who are on the cardio machines, hour after hour, day after day. The leanest folks will be those who spend less total time in the gym, focusing their attention on heavy strength training and metabolic conditioning. They will train infrequently, intensely, and recover better.

3. I’ll sleep when I’m dead! NOPE

Well, actually yes on this one, as you will die much sooner. Sleep deprivation is one of the most profound stressors on a person. Instead, make sleep a priority. Follow a ritual each night of turning off electronics, reading, meditating, and limiting exposure to light. Go to bed around the same time each night in a cold, dark, quiet space. Wake with the sunrise. You will increase your productivity each day, be more focused on tasks, and just kick more general ass each day.

There are literally dozens of things you should probably be doing the opposite on. Take a good look around you. If you are not getting the result you want from your current actions, it’s probably time that you start doing the opposite!
